For The Girl Who Struggles With Forgiveness.

I am currently studying the book of Matthew. Today I decided to read ahead because (WHY WOULDNT I READ AS MUCH OF HIS WORD AS I CAN!!). I read through a few chapters & eventually came to the point where Judas betrays Jesus. That story always gets me. Around Easter time, our church acts out the scene where Jesus washes the disciples feet & I definitely cried numerous times as I watched that scene. Because, goodness gracious. That’s some mind-blowing kinda love.
I seriously want to love & forgive like Jesus does.

Because HOW MANY JUDAS’ does this world hold, that Jesus still chose to die for & loves unconditionally? We all sin & fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) – so we have ALL disobeyed, sinned against, perhaps even betrayed or denied Jesus at some point in our lives. We fail Him daily.

&& to think that while Jesus hung on that cross, in the worst pain & agony a human could endure, He knew that was for ME & He STILL DID IT. A sinless, perfect King died for ME – a sinful broken, desperate, lost, hungry, unfulfilled, messy girl. I find myself coming near tears a lot lately at that realization. I either cry or just sit there & try to grasp the mind-blowing truth of His love.
BUT.

THEN.

THERE’S.

{{ “that one person” }}
I don’t know – maybe it’s a her or a him for you – but most likely if you clicked on this post you struggle with forgiveness. & you know “that one person” I’m talking about. They hurt you. Talked bad about you. Betrayed you. Lied to you. Ugh. Maybe it’s one person, a whole group or the WHOLE WORLD you have trouble forgiving, but bitterness is definitely a struggle. I love to read about Jesus’ LOVE & forgiveness, but I still struggle with actually APPLYING this to my life on an every day basis.
Harboring bitterness is a tool of the enemy to…. John 10:10 – KILL YOUR JOY, STEAL YOUR LOVE & ULTIMATELY DESTROY YOUR LIFE. Because even the enemy knows, when you hold the unshakable conviction & obedience to LOVE & FORGIVE as Jesus does, you can make a difference.
So to the girl who struggles with forgiveness, here are 3 Ways You Can Find Freedom.

>> (1.) Pray

Pray for God’s heart for people. Ask Him to cleanse you of any bitterness, anger & hurt. Pray for His comfort & healing & that He fills you with His love. Ask Him to keep your thoughts focused on honoring Him & take every thought into obedience to Him. (2 Corinthians 10:5) Ask Him to place in you humility & patience. & (EVEN HARDER) – pray for Him to open up doors for you to serve & love those who have hurt you.
>> (2.) Read Stories In The Bible Of Forgiveness (The Prodigal Son, Judas & Jesus) or Stories of Woman & Men Of Faith Who Have Walked in Forgiveness (I’ve Heard That Elisabeth Elliot’s Story Is POWERFUL)
& apply these characteristics/scriptures to the way you treat people. Be encouraged by those who are so faith-filled & obedient to the word of God & choose to do His will – even if it hurts or doesn’t make sense.

…. other good books: Hearts of Fire by TVOM & The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom…

>> (3.) DON’T GOSSIP

To walk in forgiveness, means to refrain from gossiping or talking badly about anyone. Take your hurt to the Lord & turn it into praise for His faithfulness & love & unending grace. Use your story as a testimony for His glory. Even when you want to defend yourself or prove to others that you are right & they are wrong, remind yourself that your love for Christ (& your good character even when no one is watching), will speak for itself.

—–> (James 4:11 – Speak not evil one of another, brethren.)

Colossians 3:13 – Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Psalm 34:13-14 – Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

Matthew 6:14-15 – For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
YOU ARE A NEW CREATURE IN CHRIST! (2 Corinthians 5:17) You have thrown off your old clothing & you walk in His brand new clothing. You reflect JESUS. When people see you – do they see JESUS? Do they see a forgiven & forgiving daughter of the King who walks in obedience to her Heavenly Father? Don’t allow the enemy to change your mind & blot out God’s truth. Keep your focus on what is eternal & who you are as a daughter of the King.
Forgive.

           LOVE.

Forgive.
           LOVE.
& repeat again daily. 🙂
