Today I will be sharing a guest post by my beautiful and sweet friend, Des!! She has such a beautiful heart for God and I’m so excited to share this post with you!
Everyone wants friends, to feel like you fit in with someone cool or popular makes you feel special. You tend to try so hard to impress others so maybe they will like you. You worry when you meet someone new because this is possibly someone you can become friends with! You try to think of right stuff to say, to do, you probably don’t even show the true person you are because you’re worried that they won’t like that. You work yourself up wondering if they will want to be your friend or not. But the funny thing is, as a Christian, you shouldn’t have to stress over making new friends. Because God has already set aside people to love you just the way you are. He is the one who actually chooses your friends. Whether or not they are friends for a season or a lifetime… God is the one that leads them your way.
This really puts the topic perspective:
“In friendship…we think we have chosen our peers. In reality a few years’ difference in the dates of our births, a few more miles between certain houses, the choice of one university instead of another…the accident of a topic being raised or not raised at a first meeting–any of these chances might have kept us apart. But, for a Christian, there are, strictly speaking no chances. A secret master of ceremonies has been at work. Christ, who said to the disciples, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you,” can truly say to every group of Christian friends, “Ye have not chosen one another but I have chosen you for one another.” The friendship is not a reward for our discriminating and good taste in finding one another out. It is the instrument by which God reveals to each of us the beauties of others.” -C.S Lewis
The God who made you exactly who you are today is the same God that has handpicked great friends for you. Although it might seem all up to you to find them, He is the one who puts them in your path.
So how about we pray to Him for friends instead of trying to find some all on our own? He is the only one who can give us lasting friendships. It’s up to Him… Not us.
He knows the kind of people we need in our lives, He already has our friendships planned out. Let’s trust Him not only with this, but everything in between.
